Annual Reception

The  Annual Reception  for 2009 was a gala event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of AFAS Victoria.  As always it provided members, their partners and invited guests with a convivial atmosphere for making or renewing contact with others who share their interests and/or simply for mixing socially, while enjoying drinks and a tasty selection of finger food.

The anniversary was celebrated by 27 members, together with 30 partners and invited guests, including the Honorary Consul-General for France.

Celebrating Thirty Years

To mark the occasion, Past-President John Acton presented a brief review of some key achievements by AFAS Victoria over the years.  For details regarding this presentation, together with further details regarding the Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration, please refer to the supplementary event summary.

An illuminating presentation was also delivered by one of the AFAS FEAST-France Fellows for 2008, Adrian Orifici, providing an enthusiastic summary of his study tour to France.  A PDF copy of this presentation is available for viewing by clicking here.

Annual General Meeting

At the  Annual General Meeting  the Honorary President delivered his Annual Report for 2008, while the Honorary Treasurer presented the Statements of Account for 2008.

Voting then followed for membership of the Committee of Management, with the following being elected :

  • Susan Patrick (newly-elected)
  • Sophie Bourguès (re-elected, but subsequently resigned)
  • Sebastien Fleury (re-elected).

The thanks of the Committee were extended to Marian Obenchain and Georgina Douglas, who had recently tendered their resignations from the Committee as a consequence of changed professional commitments.

Upon the nomination of Tom Rado and a vote by acclamation, former long-standing President, John Acton, was elected as an Honorary Life Member, in recognition of his significant contribution to the Association.
